Bodyshaming

“Don’t care about them…”

The term “body shaming” refers to the practice of criticizing or ridiculing someone for their physical appearance. This practice has ancient roots and has manifested itself in many cultures throughout history, although the term itself is relatively recent.
Body shaming has deep roots in human history and culture, evolving through the ages in response to social and cultural changes. Although the term itself is relatively new, the practice of judging and criticizing the bodies of others is ancient. The fight against body shaming continues today through movements that promote body acceptance and diversity.

Body evaluation and the association of certain body types with moral or social values are ancient phenomena. In many cultures, bodies have always been judged based on prevailing beauty ideals.
With the advent of mass media, such as film and television, beauty ideals have become even more standardized and widespread.

In the 21st century, social media has amplified the phenomenon of body shaming. Celebrity culture and the widespread use of platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, which allow for the rapid dissemination of images, have simultaneously led to a rise in body image criticism. The ability to comment publicly on these platforms has facilitated the practice of body shaming, leading to actual forms of cyberbullying.

At the same time, there have also been significant movements combating body shaming, such as the body positivity movement, which promotes acceptance of all body types and fights against unrealistic beauty standards.
